The song is about accepting yourself and loving yourself. It's about standing out in the crowd. Katy Perry is no hypocrite. She definitely lives by the song. She's got a personality that is beautiful, fun, colorful and exciting. Just like a firework!
Do you want to be a firework too? Well, you can! Just like Katy said in the song, "You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine! Just own the night like the 4th of July! Because baby, you're a firework!" Here are some tips on how you can ignite that light and let it shine!
1. Dress cute everyday.
With our busy schedules, it can be easy to not put as much effort into our appearance. But don't let yourself go! Take the extra time to make your hair, makeup and clothes look cute everyday. Wear perfume too! I love this one by Katy Perry, herself!

When you look better, you feel better and when you feel better it's easy to connect with others!
2. Live in the moment.
Too often, we get lost thinking about the past or future. It's hard to be happy and make others happy, when you are always lost in your own head. So try to focus on what is in front of you at the moment. When you stay focused in the moment, you will find you have much less stress and people feel more connected with you.
3. Be positive.
Don't be a Debbie Downer. Try to look at the bright side of things. When you talk to people, try to talk about positive things. Talk to them about their own interests. Ask them questions about themselves. People get tired of listening to you complain about your problems!
4. Be friendly.
A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet. Be friendly to everyone you meet. Don't put up a wall. Don't make them "earn" your kindness. Be venerable! And yes, sometimes people might not be nice back. Sometimes people will hurt your feelings. But don't let that stop you from being friendly! Remember, it's their loss!
5. Don't compare yourself to others.
Your best friend just got engaged? Your worst enemy just bought a brand new Mercedes? So what! Don't let it bring you down! Just focus on yourself and what you are doing!
6. Read books on how to improve your personality.
There's always way to improve, you don't stop when you supposedly have enough information. Here is one of my favorite books on how to improve your personality!

7. Find ways to help others.
You don't have to do something huge, but just small favors for people you know can go a long way!
8. Make others feel accepted.
Try not to judge. Give everyone a chance. You might think you won't click with a person, or you have nothing in common, but you will never know for sure, unless you talk to them and get to know them! You never know, the person who you thought was your total opposite might turn out to be your best friend!
9. Be fit.
Being fit makes you more happy and confident. It's easy to make friends when you are happy and confident! So start working out and eating healthier! You will be glad you did!
10. Support others when they succeed.
It's one thing to not be jealous, but it's another thing to actually go out of your way to support someone. For example, Katy Perry went to Las Vegas, to see Britney Spears' Piece of Me Show. She could have easily gotten jealous, that she didn't get a show. She could have started to resent Britney and feel competitive towards her. But no! She was able to let it be about Britney for a night, not Katy. She was a true friend!
11. Speak up!
If you have a voice that is very soft, or if you always sound unsure of yourself when you speak, you might want to work on that! What you have to say is always important, just remember that! Speak up and be proud of everything you have to say!
12. Be unique!
These are not tips for you to be just like Katy! Be yourself! An original is always worth more than a copy. So find the things you love about yourself and celebrate them! Because baby, you're a firework!
